Phala is a harpist who loves to teach theory. She has developed a curriculum of Music Theory in Song and Rhyme which transforms potentially confusing and complicated theoretical concepts into playful, accessible, collaborative outbursts of pure musical joy. In addition to the Utah Suzuki Harp institute, Phala has taught theory at the Peaks to Plains Suzuki Institute (CO), the Lyon and Healy International Jazz and Pop Harpfest (UT), Susan Allen’s Summer Harp Course (CA), and The Harmony Project (CA). She holds a BM from the Oberlin Conservatory of Music and an MFA from the California Institute of the Arts. Phala teaches Suzuki harp at Studio Fidicina in Minneapolis, MN and she is adjunct harp faculty at Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter, MN.
